Local outing to Coney Island
For our local outing in 2010 we joined with Donaghmore Historical Society on their outing to Coney Island in Lough Neagh. Stewartstown had visited the island on an evening outing in the 1980s but it was felt that a return visit was long overdue. So it was that over 70 people assembled at Ballyronan Harbour to board the famous vessel "Maid of Antrim" for our 'cruise' to the island. Despite the wind and rain which confined all but the most hardy to 'below decks', we arrived at the island in good spirits, as the weather began to clear. We enjoyed an informative talk and tour by the resident warden Mr. Peter McClelland, followed by a tasty and plentiful BBQ.
